They fell less than an hour later, before he aimed the gun at himself and committed suicide, according to the American newspaper, The Daily Beast

According to the authorities in the US state of Florida, the father posted a picture of himself with his 12-year-old daughter, Baleria Tovar, and his 9-year-old son, Matthias Tovar, at the time.

8:36 pm Tuesday.

At 9:26 p.m., police were called over a shooting in Miami outside an apartment complex. First responders at the scene found that Zapata and the children were already dead, according to Miami-Dade police.

The suspect’s estranged wife, who is also the mother of the children, discovered the bodies near the apartment.

Local media reported that the mother was at home at the time of the accident

Earlier that day, police said, they had an argument with Zapata over the whereabouts of their children. The wife told a local media that he suffered from an untreated mental illness.

It was not clear if the selfie Zapata shared was taken just before the incident, or if the suspect had used an old photo.
