Taliban arrests two Afghan journalists on a mission for the United Nations in Kabul
Two foreign journalists on assignment for the United Nations have been arrested in the Afghan capital KabulAccording to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Friday.
The group was on assignment with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Afghan nationals.
The Taliban are believed to be behind the arrests, but they have not commented on the alleged kidnapping.
According to media sources, a former BBC journalist, “Andrew North”, is among the people arrested in Kabul.
Another journalist and a number of Afghan nationals are also believed to have been detained by the Taliban in the capital.
And journalist Natalia Antlava, partner of Andrew North, tweeted:
“Andrew was in Kabul working for UNHCR and trying to help the people of Afghanistan. We are deeply concerned for his safety and call on anyone with influence to help secure his release.”

UNHCR wrote on Twitter
“Two journalists on assignment with UNHCR and two Afghan nationals working with them were arrested in Kabul. We are doing everything we can to solve this problem in coordination with other parties, We will not make further comments given the nature of the situation.”

The Taliban has yet to comment on the alleged incident.
