The British professor asks a question: What should we do to combat genocide?
- Alton began his career as a teacher working in socially disadvantaged neighborhoods
- The lecture will be held in the auditorium of the Heisberg Center for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame
Professor David Alton, a British Parliamentarian known for his work in the field of human rights, will deliver a lecture at the Nanovich Forum at 5 pm on February 15
The event is hosted by the Nanofik Institute for European Studies, inside the auditorium of the Heisberg Center for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame, and is free and open to the public.
The lecture will be entitled “A view from the UK Parliament: What we must do to combat genocide”
Alton will discuss the repeated failure to avoid genocide in places like the Balkans in Europe and now in Xinjiang.
He will be considering his work for an upcoming co-authored book that explores crime GenocideIt outlines the ways in which authoritarian regimes – from Russia to China – have undermined the United Nations genocide convention
He explained the Genocide Amendment, which he pioneered through the UK Parliament in 2021.
