Queen Elizabeth wants Camilla to become queen

This strengthens Camilla’s position in the heart of the royal family, after she was considered an outsider in the past.

In a message marking the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, Queen Elizabeth said the occasion gave her an opportunity to reflect on the loyalty and love shown by the British people.

She added that she wished Prince Charles and Camilla the same support, according to Reuters.

“My sincere wish is that when that time comes, Camilla will be known as the Queen Consort of the King as she continues her faithful service,” she said.

Prince Charles and Camilla were married in 2005 in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle.

“The Queen’s words touched and honored them,” their Clarence House residence said on Saturday.

Queen Elizabeth’s move reflects a broader acceptance of Camilla’s status as queen.

She is no longer targeted by the tabloids, as they did in the decade since the death of Princess Diana, Prince Charles’ first wife, in 1997.

Camilla is currently the Duchess of Cornwall and now regularly represents the royal family alongside Prince Charles during official duties.
