The beheading of a 17-year-old girl, by her husband, in the western Iranian province of Khuzestan last week caused an uproar that shook world public opinion, and many human rights organizations.

According to the official Iranian news agency, the incident began with the spread of a video clip on the Internet showing the husband, Sajjad Haidari, smiling in the regional capital of Ahvas, carrying his wife’s severed head, while official authorities in the country confirmed the photos shared, according to (CNN).

The victim girl fled to Turkey four months before she was persuaded to return to Iran by her father, according to an interview with her mother-in-law, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency. She returned from Turkey and was killed shortly after.

The girl was 12 years old when she married Heydari, while the minimum age for marriage in Iran is 13 for girls and 15 for boys.

In an interview with the girl’s father, which was published on Tuesday by Fars Agency, he was quoted as saying that he had received legal certificate He allows his daughter to marry.

Neither Haidari nor any of his family appeared on any media, and it is not clear whether he has a lawyer, while the Fars News Agency published an interview in which it quoted Sajjad’s mother as saying that her son had previously threatened to kill his wife and was responsible for her killing.

Public Prosecutor Abbas Hosseini Boya told the agency that Haidari was arrested along with his brother, who allegedly helped him in committing the crime, stressing: “The accused will definitely be dealt with strictly.”
